Webhook inbox
A catch URL is a public address on your Wirebench Server that records every request sent to it. Point a payment provider’s, a CI system’s or your own service’s webhook at it, and each delivery shows up in Wirebench seconds later: method, path, headers and body, exactly as they arrived.
Catch URLs belong to a workspace shared on Wirebench Server, so everyone in the workspace sees the same captures. See Shared workspaces for sharing a workspace on a server.
Create a catch URL
Section titled “Create a catch URL”- Open a workspace shared on a Wirebench Server. When the server offers catch URLs, the Explorer shows a Webhook inbox node after your projects.
- Right-click Webhook inbox and choose New catch URL…. You need the editor or admin role.
- Give it a name. Optionally, set the response every sender gets: its status (200 by default), a content type, a body and a delay of up to 30 seconds.
- Click Create. Its tab opens with the full URL and a copy button.
The URL looks like https://wirebench.example.com/hooks/01J8…. Anything after it is kept as the
capture’s subpath, so …/hooks/01J8…/orders/created works too, and you can tell deliveries apart.
Read captures
Section titled “Read captures”The catch URL’s tab lists captures newest first: method, subpath, time and size. New ones appear as they arrive while the app is connected. Scroll down, or click Load older, for earlier ones.
Select a capture to read it:
- Headers shows every header in the order it arrived, repeats included.
- Body shows the body in the same viewers as a REST response: pretty JSON or XML, raw text, and a hex dump for binary.
- Form shows the fields of an
application/x-www-form-urlencodedbody. - Details shows the method, subpath, query, source address, time received and size.
A catch URL with a signature scheme marks each capture ✓ (verified) or ✗ (with the reason), and 401 when it rejected the request. See Webhook signatures.
Save as webhook…, on the capture viewer, turns a capture into a webhook item in a project’s Webhooks collection — useful for replaying a real event on demand. See Sending webhooks.
A body larger than the server’s limit is cut, and the tab says so: Body cut at 1.0 MB of 3.4 MB.
A GET or HEAD request carries no body, so its capture stores an empty one.
Each catch URL in the Explorer carries a badge counting the captures you have not seen on this device. Opening its tab clears the badge.
Manage catch URLs
Section titled “Manage catch URLs”Right-click a catch URL for:
- Copy URL
- Settings…: viewers can read the settings; editors can change them.
- Rotate URL…: gives the catch URL a new address. The old one stops working at once, so update every sender.
- Clear captures: deletes its captures for everyone in the workspace.
- Delete: removes the catch URL and its captures.
A disabled catch URL answers 404 to every sender and records nothing, exactly like a URL that
never existed.
What the server keeps
Section titled “What the server keeps”The server keeps the newest 500 captures of each catch URL for 7 days, and stores up to 1 MiB of each
body. A catch URL accepts 10 requests a second, with bursts of 50, and answers 429 beyond that. The
server’s administrator can change all of these. See the
server README.
