Exporting collections
Exporting writes what you built in Wirebench in a format other tools read, so a project is never stuck here. Export a whole project, or one REST, gRPC or WebSocket API or SOAP interface.
| Format | Files written |
|---|---|
| Postman Collection v2.1 | <name>.postman_collection.json, and one <environment>.postman_environment.json per environment |
| OpenCollection 1.0 | <name>.opencollection.yml, with the environments inside it |
Export from the app
Section titled “Export from the app”-
Right-click a project, an API or an interface in the explorer and choose Export as Postman Collection… or Export as OpenCollection…. For the selected project, the command palette has Export Project as Postman Collection… and Export Project as OpenCollection….
-
Pick the folder to write to. Files of the same name in it are replaced.
-
Read the report. It names the files written, then lists things to look at — what was lost — and notes — what was changed to fit. Copy report puts it all on the clipboard.
The workspace’s environments and properties are exported with the project’s own.
What is carried over
Section titled “What is carried over”- Structure. A whole project becomes one folder per API and interface; one API puts its folders and requests at the top. A SOAP interface becomes a folder per operation.
- Requests. Method, URL (made absolute from the API’s base URL), path and query parameters, headers, body — raw, form, multipart or file — descriptions and saved response examples.
- Variables.
${name}is written{{name}}.${#Env#name}and the other property scopes are flattened to{{name}}, with a note.${#System#…}and${#Sequence#…}have no equivalent: they stay as written, with a warning. - Auth. The type and its settings — user name, key name and placement, token and authorization URLs, client id, scopes — on the collection, folder or request that has it. Kerberos is written as no auth, with a warning.
- Scripts. Every pre-request and post-response script, as text. A script written against Wirebench’s own script API is flagged: the other tool will not run it.
- SOAP. Each SOAP request becomes an HTTP POST of its envelope to its endpoint, with its
Content-TypeandSOAPAction. WS-Security, WS-Addressing, attachments and MTOM are reported.
